HISTORY OF SISTER CITY RELATIONS WITH TOLEDO

1995
  • Visit to Toyohashi by the Executive Directior of the Toledo Sister Cities International, John Henry Fullen.
1996
  • Visit to Toyohashi by a delegation from the University of Toledo.
1997
  • Exchange program between the Camera Clubs of Toyohashi and Toledo.
1998
  • A Friendship Delegation, headed by the Toyohashi International Association visits Toledo.
1999
  • A member of the Toledo City Council visits Toyohashi with a group.
  • In order to gain foreign experience, an English teacher from Toyohashi visits Toledo and participates in the International Youth Academy.
  • The Deputy Mayor and group from the Toyohashi City Council visit Toledo.
  • Through the Toyohashi International Association, a Junior High School Student International Relations Delegation visits Toledo.
  • On October 26th, the Toledo City Council passes a resolution giving the go-ahead for the Sister City relationship. The Toyohashi City Council does the same on December 20th.
2000
  • On April 29th, the Sister City Signing Ceremony takes place in Toyohashi.


ABOUT OUR RELATIONS

In order to promote citizens-level exchanges, a "Toyohashi-Toledo Committee" was formed wihin the Toyohashi International Association. In 2002, a group of Toledo University and high school students visited Toyohashi in May. One participanted in Toyohashi's "Eco-Car Race", and the others took part in internships with Toyohashi City Hall and local companies. In July, the Sister Cities International Conference was held in Toledo, and the Deputy Mayor and Chairman of the International Association both came from Toyohashi to attend.
