New Year's Greetings

photo_New Year's GreetingsHappy New Year! I hope that you are all able to welcome the new year in good health! I want to thank you very much for all of your support and understanding with regard to the city’s administration last year.
We cannot reflect on last year without remembering the March 11 Earthquake and Tsunami in the Tohoku Region. On the day of the earthquake, our city dispatched its emergency fire brigade and also dispatched a Disaster Medical Assistance Team from the Toyohashi Municipal Hospital. At present, the Mikawa 8-City Alliance is still continuing its efforts to aid victims affected by the disaster in the region. As a result of this tragedy, however, our city’s administration was able to see how important its role is in the event of a disaster and we have recognized how important is it to have in place a region-wide system aimed at supporting emergency relief and recovery efforts. However, there was also good news last year such as the establishment of the “Ee-Janai-Ka” Toyohashi Promotion Dance Troupe, the fostering of a friendship with Wolfsburg, Germany, as well as the birth of the Asian elephant “Mara” at the Toyohashi Zoo.
Last April we enacted Toyohashi’s Comprehensive 5-Year Plan and up until now we have been hard at work putting into effect countermeasures in the event of a tsunami, researching and testing at plant factories, and founding the new municipal special support school. I want to continue to take great strides toward making Toyohashi a place where people can live at ease with hope and pride. While the budget is tight this year, I ask for your continued cooperation and support as we work hard to live by the phrase “live together, build together,” as outlined in the main idea of the comprehensive plan.
I hope that this year will be a happy and bright year for you all.
