Q/A with the Mayor:

What are your hobbies?

Sahara: I like to play tennis and ski, but because I’m busy I cannot do them as often as I would like. I really need to do some kind of exercise though to lose weight though…. I also like vehicles. Trains, planes, boats, cars—you name it, I like it. Now I’m working to take advantage of all that Toyohashi has to offer and trying to ride many kinds of trains as I can.

What are your likes?

Sahara: I really like music and the arts. I often go to Lifeboat Toyohashi and Ai Plaza Toyohashi to enjoy performances.

Do you have any special skills?

Sahara: When I was in elementary and middle school, I learned how to play the piano. When the Toyohashi Children’s Museum “Coconico” received its piano via donation, I showcased my skills and performed for everyone. I’m also really good at using an abacus. Even now, I’m pretty sure I can multiply two three-digit numbers in my head.

How would you describe your personality?

Sahara: My wife would probably say I’m warm and kind, but my tendencies to talk a lot and hum are my flaws. I would describe myself as an inquisitive, curious individual who likes to tackle new challenges and find solutions to problems. That’s also the kind of mayor I want to be.

What’s your favorite food?

Sahara: I like Katsu-don, Udon, and Soba. I used to like Miso Udon, but now my favorite is Toyohashi Curry Udon. I also like Brazilian Feijoada and a Caribbean soup called Sancocho.

Do you have anything you’re hooked on right now?

Sahara: At the end of last year, I started skiing again, but this year I’m taking a bit of a break and getting back into practicing the Tenor Saxophone.
